#92 | Could fundraising benefit from having fewer experts and more coaches?
I have now had the pleasure of speaking not once but twice with members of the team at Tailored Fundraising. Last week, I spoke with Kiley, one of the founders of Tailored. This week I had a conversation with Director of Coaching Jenny Karr who, after being a client of Tailored herself, found coaching to be very rewarding and fulfilling work. Speaking for myself, I too have found coaching to be very rewarding and have come to realize that it affords a very different posture than the traditional consulting role that leaders may be more accustom to enlisting for help.
My conversation with Jenny begs the question of whether fundraising could benefit from having fewer experts and more coaches? Unlike those who usually claim to have all the answers and often reminds us of everything that our organizations are missing, Ginny describes the coach as someone who focuses on our assets and encourages us to ask better questions of ourselves. Jenny also gave me the impression that the deliverables for which we pay a coach are very different than those we expect of some who is pitching consulting services.
