#95 | Are nonprofits ready for the next generation of employees and volunteers?
After finishing graduate school Sarah confidently uprooted herself from Arkansas and moved to Washington DC in pursuit of an opportunity to the change the world. Sarah’s experiences offer insight into how we can recruit and retain employees and volunteers in the future. Our conversation begged the question of whether the sector is ready for the next generation who will show up with much higher expectations of themselves and the organizations they choose to partner with.
To be perfectly honest, I don’t think the large majority of us in our sector has much of an idea what an impact this next generation of employees and volunteers will make. They are arguably better prepared, less adverse to risk-taking, and intolerant of the status quo. It’s fair to say that many of them are unwilling to inherit the sector as-is and can’t be expected to carry out their charge in a manner identical to their predecessors’.
