#194 | Will fundraising part ways with some of its sacred practices in order to be a truly inclusive endeavor?

Today’s thought-provoking conversation with Meena begs the questions of whether some of our nonprofit organizations are merely paying lip service to DEI initiatives and whether we are willing to part ways with some of our most sacred practices for the sake of a truly inclusive endeavor. Let’s remind ourselves that actions speak louder than words. Meena believes there is a significant disconnect between those who are raising money every day and the boards and bosses who are generally calling the shots on how fundraising plays out.

I would push that observation a little further and point out that there are some pretty big players in our sector that have vested interests in business as usual. For a lot of these players, Covid-19 has taken a toll on their margins; and the idea of meaningful change in our hiring decisions, how we fill leadership positions, and who we cultivate as most significant donors has implications that have not been fully realized and acknowledged.

As always, the team at Responsive Fundraising wants to thank our friends at CueBack for being our podcast sponsor and for ensuring that we can deliver up-to-date and thought-provoking conversations every week to those in the professional fundraising community.
