222 | How do we get the relationship between CEO and Chief Fundraiser right?

The Fundraising Talent Podcast, a production of Responsive Fundraising

I did not consider it mere coincidence that I had the this conversation on Inauguration Day. Before we talked fundraising, Holly and I compared notes on what it means to be raising daughters at this moment in history; how schools like Presentation are developing young women for leadership; and how we can celebrate Vice President Harris’s past, present and future achievements.

Holly and I first met shortly after the release of my first book, and I was pleased to hear how it is now informing her search for a new chief fundraiser. As I shared with her, any updates to the book will focus on getting the dynamic between the CEO and chief fundraiser right. When we begin to grasp what a truly healthy dynamic between the CEO and fundraising leader looks like, we are well on our way to a thriving program. I also believe CEO’s are wise to keep their chief fundraisers out of the routine squabbles over board governance and, instead, focus on ensuring that board members are especially generous donors.
