#199 | How might agencies play a more strategic rather than tactical role in fundraising?

Anyone who knows me understands that, in the last decade or so, I’ve become quite a bookworm; rarely do I read a book cover to cover in one sitting, but eventually return to them to finish. What I most appreciated about my conversation today with David Ehrenthal is that, evidently, he also does his share of reading and perhaps his habits are just as messy; we obviously have read a number of the same books and are both able to connect the dots between what we’re reading and our professional work.

What my conversation today with David most revolved around was whether our expectations of the agency are perhaps changing and whether nonprofits will expect a more strategic contribution from their agency partners in the future. This is certainly a question we could have continued to explore: how agencies, consultants, and other advisors play a more strategic role for their clients rather than the tactical role that is much more common when it comes to fundraising. It would seem to me that doing so would have a dual positive effect, allowing the nonprofit to develop more of their competencies in-house and increasing the breadth and depth to which agencies assist their partners.

As always, we are very grateful to our friends at CueBack for sponsoring The Fundraising Talent Podcast.
